Eager to strengthen your board of directors and maximize their governance potential? Now available for virtual training, request to receive personalized nonprofit board training based on your organization's needs.

Courses are led by local BoardSource certified trainers. BoardSource is the gold-standard leader in board leadership that supports, trains, and educates nonprofit leaders across the country and around the world.  

Participants will receive a REALIZE Board Training Continuing Education Certificate of Completion at the end of each course they attend. 

*NOTE: This training is only offered to a board of directors with eight or more members.  

Details:

In keeping with guidelines and ordinances from the Federal, State, and Local Governments as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), REALIZE Board Individual Organization Trainings will be held via virtual engagement in order to maintain social distancing to help contain the COVID-19 virus.

Courses include three modules, each lasting about an hour long.

Course 1: Roles and Responsibilities

  • Module 1: Roles and Responsibilities of Individual Board Members

    • This lesson in Course One will help increase your understanding of the duties, roles, responsibilities and characteristics of individual board members.

  • Module 2: Ensuring the Necessary Resources

    • ​This lesson in Course One will help increase your understanding of the board's role in developing capable staff leadership, adequate financial resources, positive public image and oversight. ​

  • Module 3: Setting Organizational Direction

    • The last lesson in Course One will help increase your understanding in the board's role in setting philosophical, strategic, and tactical direction for the nonprofit organization they serve. ​

                

Course 2: Structuring a High-Performance Board

  • Module 1: Board Building Cycle

    • ​This lesson Course Two will help increase your understanding of the building cycle and the role that each individual board member has for capacity building within their own board. ​

  • Module 2: Board Structure

    • This lesson in Course Two will help increase your understanding of work groups and committees as well as building an effective board meeting agenda. ​

  • Module 3: Sharing Leadership: Board/CEO Partnership

    • ​This last lesson in Course Two will help increase your understanding of the important and vital partnership between the Board Chair and Chief Executive. ​

Course 3: Fundraising 

  • Module 1: Fundraising Fundamentals and Budget  

    • This lesson in Course Three will help increase your understanding in the fundamentals of nonprofit fundraising. 

  • Module 2: Stages of Fundraising

    • This lesson in Course Three will help increase your understanding in the different stages and elements involved when fundraising. ​

  • Module 3: The Board + Staff = The Fundraising Team

    • ​This last lesson in Course Three will help increase your knowledge in the board and organizational staff's respective roles in fundraising and how they work together as the​ fundraising team. 

Course 4: Fiscal Oversight and Accountability

  • Module 1: Financial Statements

    • This lesson Course Four will help increase your understanding when reviewing the financial statements such as income and expense statements, balance sheets, cash analysis, and what they say about your organization. ​

  • Module 2: IRS Form 990, Financial Risks, and Dashboards

    • This lesson in Course Four will help increase your understanding when reviewing the IRS Form 990, avoiding financial risks, understanding the audit, the financial dashboard. 

  • Module 3: Fiscal Policies and Procedures

    • This last lesson in Course Four will help increase your understanding in policies and procedures regarding conflict of interests, gift acceptance, expense reimbursement, whistleblower protection, and other important policies.
