Get On Board

Board Matching Program

FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS

As part of its REALIZE Board training program, the United Way of El Paso County is pilot testing a board matching program. Called Get On Board, the program connects young professionals who graduate from REALIZE Board Training with established, regional nonprofits.

Participating nonprofits must have been established for at least five years and provide service in El Paso County, TX.  The participating nonprofit Board or Nominations Committee must agree that at least one novice board member is needed starting in 2023. The Board must commit to board development by: sending current Board Members to REALIZE Board Training, hosting a REALIZE Board Training session for their board (United Way provides the trainers), or otherwise documenting board training.

All young professionals are graduates of the REALIZE Board Training Program, but have little to no board experience, and must also demonstrate a commitment to serving on a nonprofit board and all that it entails.

Applications for Get On Board are due November 1, 2022. The United Way of El Paso County will host an online info session for nonprofits on October 18th at 10:00am. If you plan to attend, please register below.

Applications will be reviewed by a committee, and they will submit up to three matches for each nonprofit by November 30th. The leadership team (chief executive and board chair) of each nonprofit should meet with each match (online or in-person) to determine the best fit for the organization. Nonprofits need to submit two finalists to the United Way by December 20th. Once final submissions are reviewed, all matches will be announced on January 13th, 2023. Due to a variety of factors and needs, it’s possible that not all nonprofits and young professionals will be matched.
